The development of the rice sector in East Africa represents a significant policy challenge.

Kenya has enormous agricultural potential yet currently faces a significant domestic production deficit in rice , and farmers & access to market is often restricted. There is a low level of trust among farmers, as well as between farmers and value chain actors yet at the same time, there are buyers, input providers, financial and insurance markets with strong appetites for larger customer bases. Smallholder farmers in Kenya are often unable to take up the opportunities to improve their livelihoods. At KELS Limited we bridge the gap between farmers and key value chain actors and in doing so we build and increase trust and transparency among all stakeholders.  We do so by Facilitating market linkages between aggregators of rice in Tanzania & distributors in Kenya.
